Anantnag, Apr. 27 -- Despite the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) making a near clean sweep in the 2008. Assembly elections in the Anantnag Parliamentary constituency, the decision by the Congress to support National Conference (NC) candidate Mehboob Beg has made the contest interesting this time.
The main Opposition party in Jammu and Kashmir, PDP, had won 12 out of 16 Assembly segments, spread over four districts of south Kashmir--Anantnag, Shopian, Pulwama and Kulgam-- in the Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency in the 2008 Assembly polls.
The ruling NC and Congress alliance got only three while one went to Communist Party of India (M).
