Article: Ford bids vex Indy dealers. (offer to buyout automobile dealers)

Ford Motor Co. will have to open its wallet a lot wider to consolidate dealerships in Indianapolis.

After underwhelming dealers with buyout offers last week, the company and its 21 Indianapolis-area retailers will keep talking this week.

Some dealers called the first offers completely inadequate. One offer was half and another was less than half of what dealers had anticipated, according to dealership sources who declined to be named.

"Now we will see how badly Ford wants a learning laboratory," said a dealer who declined to be named. "I expect them to decide what it is worth to them or to go to another market."
