The British government, specifically Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling, is committed to "broadband for all." However, in these difficult economic times, money for universal broadband has been as scarce as hen's teeth. But the Brits are finding ways.

In presenting its budget this week, the government showed its desire for every home to have access to at least 2 Mbps broadband by 2012. It's the same as what the Digital Britain report recommended previously.

"It is vital to ensure the entire country and economy benefits from the digital age," Darling said.
