FLORENCE - Steve Saubert says he and the other owners of the Sea Lion Caves north of Florence have no plans to plant houses on the high-rising bluffs on which the attraction is perched.
But a Measure 49 claim being considered by the state of Oregon could pave the way for building on the site. Saubert is asking the state to exempt him from land use laws so that he may build 19 homes on both the east and west sides of Highway 101 on the Sea Lion Caves' 119 acres.
