Another week, another summer blockbuster, another prequel. When "Star Trek" goes through the roof - and it will - every studio is going to start looking at their various film series to see if an "origins" story is in order. If any of them can pull off what J. J. Abrams has done here, that just might be the best news out of Hollywood in some time.

This is essentially the story of how James Kirk (Chris Pine) joined Starfleet, met Spock (Zachary Quinto), Dr. McCoy (Karl Urban) and the rest of the classic crew, and eventually became captain of the Starship Enterprise. There's a villain in there, a rogue ...
