The closure of Qualex operations slated for next month concludes a nearly two-decade progression in wholesale lab consolidation, as well as concluding Kodak participation in the photofinishing industry founded by George Eastman, who began processing film from consumers in 1888.
Eastman Kodak Co., Rochester, N.Y., announced in mid-December it will discontinue wholesale photofinishing, and close three remaining U.S. and Canada photofinishing labs operated by subsidiary Qualex Inc., Durham, N.C. The labs will end pickup and delivery to nearly 20,000 retail locations by the end of March, while the majority of digital fulfillment operations will also end at that time. ...
