Dr. Harry Bauer of Needham, former chief of medicine for Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham, died Wednesday at Stanley R. Tippett House in Needham. He was 86.
Born in Vienna, Austria, his family fled to London after the Nazi takeover in 1938. He came to the United States in 1940.
He received his high school diploma through City College of New York and was awarded a scholarship to the University of Toledo, where he graduated with honors in chemistry. He earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland in 1950.
Dr. Bauer served as a captain in the Army Medical Corps in Germany from 1951 to 1953. ...
