Designed by Ernest Flagg (1857-1947) and completed in 1913, the Charles Scribner's Sons Building, on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue, was sold by the eponymic publishers in August 1984; two months later, when the business was merged with Macmillan, the retail spaces were vacated.
