Designed by Ernest Flagg (1857-1947) and completed in 1913, the Charles Scribner's Sons Building, on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue, was sold by the eponymic publishers in August 1984; two months later, when the business was merged with Macmillan, the retail spaces were vacated. Another fine book store assumed tenancy not long thereafter, but left the premises upon expiration of the lease.
