German rail firm Deutsche Bahn announced on Wednesday the awarding of a $710 million contract to Bombardier Transportation and Alstom Transport to supply it with 83 electric four-car trains.
The new coaches will be used by Deutsche Bahn for its Stuttgart urban transport system.
The trains will have a top speed of 140 kilometers per hour, a regenerative braking system that feeds power into the grid, and will be energy efficient. It will be built at Bombardiers factory in Hennigsdorf and Alstoms facility in Salzgitter.
