The Panama Canal Authority will pick the group that will build a new set of locks, the main part of a $5.25 billion expansion, by July, the authority's chief executive said.

"We are now in the technical evaluation of the three proposals and we expect to award in July at the latest," Alberto Aleman, the Canal Authority's CEO, said in a recent interview. The Authority will hold a public ceremony to select the winner in June or July, he added. The process of selection will take into account the technical aspects of the work for 55% and the bidding price for 45%.
