The government of Uganda has acquired its first ever Global Positioning System (GPS) unit. Information available to The Analyst indicates that the government, through the Ministry of Border Defence, purchased a TomTom One GPS unit last week at 80 Euros (about Shs 240,000) from Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
GPS relies on space satellites to pinpoint one s location. Among other applications, it is used for navigation, surveying and mapping. A team of eight military specialists were dispatched to Amsterdam to purchase the GPS unit.
