Total cost of '98 biz trips to rise at about inflation rate

Business travel will be only slightly more expensive in 1998 than it is now, but companies renegotiating car rental contracts may be in for some surprises, according to a recent report on travel costs.

A study released by Rochester, Wis.-based management consulting firm Runzheimer International predicts the cost of business travel - based on the weighted average of airfares, lodging, car rental and meal expenses - will increase by 4.7% next year, a figure consistent with the small jumps of the last several years, but running at about the rate of inflation.
