Capable of more than neo-Shaft noodling or imitating your favorite XXX soundtrack, the wah-wah is a great tool for creating eccentric tonal textures. The eight wahs in this roundup cover the spectrum from bargain to boutique. All were tested in a variety of clean and distorted settings using an assortment of Strats, a '62 reissue Tele, and a Yamaha AES 1500B archtop. Our test amps included a Matchless Chieftain 2x12 combo, a Fender Twin Reverb and a reissue Bassman, and a Fender Frontman practice amp.
