A DRAMATIC surge in skin cancer among Irish women is being caused by sunshine holidays, medical experts fear.
And the number of those under 50 who have been struck down by the most serious form of the disease has gone up by a startling 75 per cent, says the Irish Cancer Society.
The charity warns that the number of women diagnosed with all types of skin cancer soared by 36 per cent between 1997 and 2007.
Skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer in Ireland - with a disturbing 7,743 new cases recorded in 2007 alone, compared to 5,687 people in 1997.
