Rick Strait's No. 38 is silent.
Rick died of a rare blood cancer last Jan. 31. He was 45.
Saturday, in a big field off Hinsdale Road near where he worked for the Onondaga Water Authority, Rick's radio call number -- 38 -- was officially retired. Rick had been an employee of the authority 22 years. His dad, Frederick -- he was Frederick Jr. -- and his Uncle John, also worked there. Dad had 40 years on the job, John 30.
We may see Rick's "38" driving by the authority's Fairmount pumping station in the Town of Camillus. His fellow workers raised the money on their own to buy a swamp oak tree and stone monument embossed ...
