The Supreme Court ruling this week that a manufacturer or supplier can specify maximum retail prices should hardly cause a ripple in the apparel or general merchandise business, experts said Wednesday.
"Our problems with distributors are keeping the freedom to lower prices," said Morrison Cain, vice president legal and public affairs for the International Mass Retail Association.
"This is not our patch of turf," he said of the ruling. "It's a much different situation for a retailer to try to prove that consumers are benefited by let- ting a retailer charge or gouge with no upside limit."
