Nov. 6--With Christmas quickly approaching, the Salvation Army wants to help 300 of the city's neediest families, but only 26 sponsors have signed up to meet those families' desperate needs for food, clothing and children's wish-list gifts.
"Each of our `Adopt-a-Family' sponsors knows each family's dire circumstances, such as large medical bills not covered by insurance, and the kids' Christmas wishes," said Salvation Army Major Norma Satterlee.
