TWO FORMS OF UNHEALTHFUL BEHAVIOR that are well documented among college students are heavy alcohol use (Wechsler and Wuethrich, 2002) and insufficient and irregular sleep (Buboltz et al., 2006). Both heavy alcohol consumption and unhealthy sleep habits are associated with various behavioral problems, including poor academic performance (Buboltz et al., 2006; Perkins, 2002). Yet alcohol and sleep researchers who have examined these harmful effects have done so in relative isolation, as neither line of inquiry is informed by the other.
