Introduction

Helicobacter pylori is a common bacterial pathogen that colonizes the gastric mucosa in humans. It is the most common causative agent of chronic gastritis and other severe gastroduodenal diseases, such as peptic and gastric ulcers, gastric cancer, and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma (Basso and Plebani 2004; Kusters et al. 2006). Studies of H. pylori virulence factors have focused on urease, vacuolating cytotoxin, and cytotoxin-associated antigens.
