NEW YORK - Against a backdrop of aggressive discounting in many areas of the hair care category, the market for hair accessories and brushes remains solid. From stylish salon-type brushes to basic pins and barrettes, the segment is widely viewed as a means of expanding the profile of hair care while building profitability.
In general, retailers say that the accessories business is driven partially by fashion trends and partially by necessity. They note that the category is generally free from the type of aggressive discounting that hurts profits in such areas as shampoo.
