OVER 300 workers are to be made redundant and there are fears for hundreds more jobs after a series of grim announcements yesterday.

Tesco came under fire last night after announcing that up to 140 workers at its head office would be offered voluntary redundancy. A law firm, travel agent, building contractor and an electric components firm also announced job cuts.

With grim irony, the news came after Minister for Social and Family Affairs Mary Hanafin insisted that the rate of job losses had slowed.
