The Creole proverb describes not only Haiti's geography but the plight of its people.
A new Haiti emerged after the U.S. military intervention restored President Jean-Bertrand Aristide to power in 1990. Hope and jubilation abounded. The people who voted for Aristide expected the new Haiti _ a world marked by with democracy, freedom and food, according to Aristide _ would be there for them.
