This column starts a series on antennas for EW applications. We have been tossing around antenna parameters in earlier columns, and it is time to go back and cover this important field in a little more depth. The scope of the series will include both threat and EW antennas. It will cover the parameters and common applications for various types antennas, provide a guide for matching the type of antenna to the job it must do and offer some simple formulas for the trade-off of various antenna parameters.
