Introduction
Topical and systemic fluorides are known to be highly effective therapeutic components of a comprehensive caries prevention plan. (1) With regard to systemic fluoride, approximately 15% of the US population receives drinking water that is regarded as fluoride deficient, ie, less than 0.6 ppm. (2) Fluoride supplements were developed as a way to provide caries-preventive benefits to children living in such non-fluoridated areas.
