Nov. 11--Boston area biotechnology and medical device companies yesterday applauded Congress's approval of comprehensive legislation that will streamline federal approval of drugs and devices.
The package, expected to gain President Clinton's signature, was passed Sunday by both the Senate and the House of Representatives, and is the broadest revamp ever of the Food and Drug Administration.
The measures will add FDA staff and spell out procedures for agency approval of drugs and devices.
