I LIVE in an area of North London with a large Turkish population, so I've spent many a lunchtime lingering over a meze down the road from my house.

I have also ended many an evening in the local ocakbasi (that'll be the kebab shop to you and me) with a large doner and far too much chilli sauce.

But I'd never been to my neighbours' homeland, and decided it was time to visit the country straddled between two continents, Europe and Asia.
