TAIPEI, May 18 Asia Pulse - The number of workers on unpaid leave dropped for the fourth consecutive time since early March, the Council of Labor Affairs (CLA) reported Friday.

CLA officials said that 813 businesses reported unpaid leave, affecting 157,183 workers, as of May 15. It represented the lowest number since the council started a system notifying the government of workers on unpaid leave in mid-January.

Businesses are required to report their number of furloughed workers two times a month under the new mechanism, which enables the CLA to monitor the effect of the global economic crisis on workers and use as a reference in developing ...
