"Persistent hypocalcemia after total parathyroidectomy and autotransplantation is rare and occasionally has been treated using allotransplantation of parathyroid tissue. We present the case of a 32-year-old woman with terminal renal failure who at age 5 years underwent a first renal transplantation from a brain-dead donor," scientists writing in the journal Transplantation Proceedings report (see also Hypoparathyroidism).
