Nov. 15--Thomson Consumer Electronics' local white-collar work force will shrink by 11 percent, or 175 people, as part of an employee buyout designed to cut costs.
The company announced Friday that it accepted all but one or two offers by employees to take the severance package.
The contraction appears to stave off layoffs, which had been threatened last month if not enough employees accepted the buyout.
"Any additional reductions in the work force ... are likely to be minor," the company said in a news release.
Last month, Thomson offered buyouts to 63 percent of the 1,550 salaried workers at its 10330 N. Meridian St. ...
