SAN JOSE, Calif.--Nov. 20--Amati Communications Corp., a leader in the development of the next generation of high-speed network connections, said Wednesday that it has agreed to be purchased for $395 million in cash by Texas Instruments Inc.
Amati, which has annual sales of about $15 million, is expected to continue operating as it has, but as a subsidiary of Texas Instruments. No layoffs are expected among its 100-person workforce.
Texas Instruments is buying Amati for its digital subscriber line technology, a way of squeezing more information through existing telephone lines.
