The government of Canada is committed to ensuring that regulation of natural health products balances the protection of consumers' health and safety with the freedom to choose alternative products, according to the regulator Health Canada in a recent statement on progress.
The Natural Health Products Regulations were developed in 2004 after extensive consultations with stakeholders and the Standing Committee on Health. During the past five years of implementation, Health Canada has gained experience and knowledge with the Regulations, and received considerable feedback from stakeholders.
