FLORIDA: BELLWETHER OF THE SOUTH
Thank you for opening this special issue of the Southeastern Geographer devoted to Florida. Geography has come a long way since the middle 20th century when regional geography was in its heyday. Some might be tempted to think that this special issue marks an attempt to return to the dark ages of mind numbing early regional studies jammed with all manner of description about collections of places with little attempt to explain underlying processes.
