Rapid growth of output
With the considerable growth of the national economy in recent years, the demand for polystyrene (PS) downstream products has increased drastically and the consumption of PS has been greatly promoted. The average annual growth of the PS output in China was 17.1% from 2003 to 2008, the average annual growth of the PS apparent consumption was 8.8%, the self-sufficiency rate increased constantly and market competition was fierce. China's PS capacity was 5.66 million t/a in 2008, output was only 4.752 million tons and the operating rate was 84%.
