To distance itself from its troubles, Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp., the nation's largest hospital chain, will change its name next year, according to company documents obtained last week by Modern Healthcare.
Columbia executives have hinted at such a change for months, but as late as a Nov. 3 wouldn't say whether a final decision on a name change had been made. Meanwhile, the company removed the Columbia name from its headquarters budding in Nashville Nov. 1.
In a Nov. 7 letter to marketing and public relations directors at the chain's 341 hospitals, Jack Bovender Jr., Columbia's president and chief operating officer, said: "We have taken active steps ...
