When Ed Koch was mayor of New York City, every time he appeared in public, his tried-and-true motto was to ask every person, crowd, newspaper and TV reporter, and even leashed pet, "How m I doing? It was Koch's way of showing that he cared about the public's opinion of his performance and that, for an elected official, there's no such thing as being too concerned about your constituents' opinions.
