TWO of tennis' all-time greats, Arthur Ashe and Althea Gibson, were honored and remembered at the opening of the new Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. At the dedication, Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe, the widow of the first Black man to win Wimbledon and U.S. Open titles, thanked the huge and enthusiastic crowd, which included several former U.S. Open champions, for their efforts to "recall a man who rejoiced as you cheered him, an individual who kept you in his prayers for a better world."
