Mother sues council over house fire that killed daughter
A MOTHER whose six-year-old child died in a house fire broke down in court yesterday as she began a High Court bid for damages.
Philomena Jinks (50), of Chapel Hill, Sligo, described how the fire broke out in a council house rented by her brothers in January 1999.
She claims Sligo Corporation (now Sligo Borough Council) was negligent in failing to maintain the electrical system in the house, which she claims caused the fire in which her daughter Sarah died.
The corporation denies the claims.
