City Smoked Fish Co. in Detroit has been warned by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that several of its products are incorrectly labeled.
The mislabeling was identified as part of a routine inspection in September 1996, said John Klemmer, FDA compliance officer. The company was sent a warning letter in August 1997 after the FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition in Washington, D.C., reviewed the inspection report.
Klemmer said the Detroit district office attempts to be much more timely with its reports, but cutbacks and a longer processing period in Washington delayed the warning letter.
