EPILEPSY is on the increase, researchers warned yesterday.
There are 37,000 people living with epilepsy in Ireland, but only four specialist nurses to treat the condition.
In fact, the number of sufferers increased from 8.3 per 1,000 people in 2002 to 9 people per 1,000 in 2005, according to a study commissioned by Brainwave - The Irish Epilepsy Association and conducted by the UCD Centre for Disability Studies.
Seventeen 17 cases of epilepsy are seen every week by each consultant neurologist, or 441 consultations nationwide per week.
