Chronic fatigue immune dysfunction syndrome (CFIDS) is a complex condition in which the victim may face years of physical exhaustion, blurred thinking, and aches and pains. The cause is unknown, there is still no cure, and the diagnosis can be made only if the patient meets the following strict criteria:
* At least six months of new and debilitating fatigue that is persistent or relapsing
* The absence of demonstrable physical or mental conditions, including substance abuse, which could account for the continued exhaustion
