Spain to open tourist office in India

Mumbai, May 19 (PTI) Spain will open a tourist office here to facilitate constant flow of travellers to the country as the Indian visiters to the European nation increased by over 12 per cent in 2008.

"Close to 60,000 Indian tourists visited Spain in 2008 and the growth in the market went from 12.5 per cent in 2007 to 20 per cent in 2008," Joan Mesquida, Spain's Secretary of State for Tourism, said here today.

Despite the tourism business being adversely hit by the global economic downturn, they were hopeful of maintaining the growth in number of tourists in the coming years, he said.
