Things have become so competitive within San Diego's high-tech industry, they've even coined a term for the act of persuading experienced computer professionals to switch jobs: "Nerd rustling."
Bruce Ahern, publisher of Technology Directory, said the term describes the "raiding" of a competitive firm to fill vacant engineering and other information technology positions.
It's a practice by no means confined to San Diego. Nationwide, there is a shortage of about 190,000 workers in information technology, according to a study released this month by the U.S. Department of Commerce's Office of Technology Policy.
