Article: Supreme Court: State need not defend Justice Sanders in ethics probe.(Local)

(Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story quoted a dissenting opinion that said the state attorney general complained to the Judical Conduct Commission about Justice Richard Sanders. Both the commission and the Attorney General's Office say the attorney general was not the source of the complaint.)

In an unusual ruling on one of its own, the state Supreme Court decided Thursday that the state does not have to defend Justice Richard Sanders against ethics complaints or pay for his defense.

None of the sitting members of the court ruled to avoid conflicts. All those who took part were pro tem justices.
