Srinagar, May. 21 -- An earthquake of 5.3 magnitude on the Richter scale rocked the Kashmir valley this evening, forcing people to rush out of their homes in panic.

Coordinator Divisional Disaster Management Aamir Ali told UNI that an earthquake of magnitude 5.3 on the Richter scale occured at 1803 hrs this evening.

He said its epicentre was Latitude 36.3N, longitude 77.6E located in the mountaneous area of China bordering Jammu and Kashmir situated 229 kms from Leh and 334 kms North East of Srinagar.
