In China, BDO (1,4-butanediol) is mainly used to produce polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), polyurethane (PU), gama-butyrolactone (GBL) and tetrahydrofuran (THF). It is also used as an intermediate in the production of medicines and chemicals and as a raw material for solvents and coatings.
Capacity expanded rapidly
With the startup of the 60 000 t/a BDO project in Xinjiang Markor Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. (Xinjiang Markor Chemical), (CCR 2008, No.31) China's capacity to make BDO has reached 209 000 t/a; output was around 130 000 tons in 2008.
