As the summer draws to a close, it is a good time to review the status of various legislative and regulatory developments of interest to the food industry which will occupy legislators and regulators this fall.
* FDA Reform Legislation: The 1997 version of FDA reform legislation is much-watered down from the radical proposals offered in the aftermath of the 1994 election in which the Republicans took control of both the House and Senate. Some form of FDA reform legislation will undoubtedly be enacted this fall because the reform legislation has been linked to the reauthorization of PDUFA, the Prescription Drug User Fee Statute.
