It's always heartening to see a band rip up the form book. It happened with the Enemy, whose latest album shows a band maturing and growing in importance. To this, add Scottish group the View, our own Director and Mundy and, whisper it, even Pete Doherty seems to be recovering his coherence.
But the band that have undergone the most startling metamorphosis in recent times are the Maccabees, whose last album, Colour It In, correctly suggested a group easily dismissed as being too twee even for nursery.
Songs such as Toothpaste Kisses, First Kiss and About Your Dress had much charm but were ...
