For whatever reason, you want to buy a new rod. How do you pick the best one? First, a warning: There are a lot of junky fishing rods on the market chat have "graphite" and even "100 percent graphite" stamped onto their blanks. That a rod is made of graphite is only the Starting point in its final evaluation. Graphite is a material, not necessarily a designation of quality. This would seem obvious, but more than a few times I've heard anglers defend a poor or inadequate rod with the out-raged cry, "But it's graphite," as though the sacred word itself settled any argument.
