First the good news for corporate finance specialists. International M&A activity reached yet another new peak in the first half of 1997 -- thereby confounding all who questioned whether the upsurge in deal volumes over the past two years could possibly be maintained. The outlook for the second half is just as positive: "There is a new beauty parade every week," says Klaus Diederichs, JP Morgan's European corporate finance head, "and it's attractive business."
