It was nice to read the recent articles about Miss Mather of Pear Tree School. They brought back quite a few memories of my time there in the early 1940s.

We moved from Mount Street to Balfour Road in 1940 and I was placed in the infants section.

The entrance gate was at the corner of Harrington Street and Portland Street but I only stayed there for about a term before I moved up into the juniors.

It was then that I encountered Miss Mather. Former pupil Marjorie Nicholl's description of her (March 7) was very accurate - she was a bit like a china doll, obviously in a mature way.
